Privacy Policy

Maintaining the security of your private data and respecting your privacy rights is a priority at the American Board of Perianesthesia Nursing Certification, Inc. (herein referred to as “ABPANC”). We pledge to always fairly and legally process your data, keep it safe to the best of our abilities, and be transparent about exactly what data we collect and how we process it.

ABPANC is a nonprofit certification organization dedicated to protecting the public by elevating perianesthesia nursing, excellence knowledge, and patient advocacy through certification. Our mission is driven by our commitment to professional practice and advocating the value of certification to healthcare decision-makers and the public; the administration of a valid, reliable, and fair certification program; ongoing collaboration the American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses (“ASPAN”) and other specialty nursing organizations; evolving psychometric and technological advances in testing; and legal and regulatory standards. As such, any information we collect serves to further our mission, including but not limited to the following:

  • Provide relevant information to potential candidates, current certificants, constituents, and the public.
  • Respond to inquiries relating to ABPANC and its certification programs.
  • Administer, promote and manage our certification exams/programs.
  • Perform our contractual obligations with candidates, certificants, and trusted partners.

What data we collect

Through this website, ABPANC may collect the following information about you:

  • Your name, contact details, & any additional information you choose to submit to us through one of the forms on this website.
  • Your online browsing activities on www.cpancapa.org.
  • Your location.

Personal Data That You Voluntarily Provide to Us. ABPANC only collects personal data you voluntarily submit to us. The types of personal data we collect vary based on the programs, services, and products you wish to engage in, but generally the information described above.

Information Received from Other Sources. We may receive information about you from publicly available and third-party databases or services that provide information about business people and companies and combine this data with information we already have about you. This helps us to update, expand and analyze our records, identify new candidates, and provide products and services that may be of interest to you.

ABPANC maintains a data storage, retention and disposal policy that governs the retention period of ABPANC records. Notwithstanding the foregoing, ABPANC may keep your personal data for a longer period as required by law or as needed in legal proceedings or to fulfill ABPANC’s legitimate interest.

Automatically Collected Data. When you visit the website, we collect and store certain other information automatically that may not identify you personally:

  • Internet Protocol (IP) address. An IP address is a number that is automatically assigned to the computer you are using whenever you access the Internet.
  • Type of browser and operating system used to access our Sites
  • Date and time you access our website
  • The pages on our website that you access

Use of cookies

A cookie cannot give us access to any information beyond what you provide us. ABPANC uses a third-party service, Google Analytics, to collect standard internet log information and details of behavior patterns for visitors of our website. ABPANC does not make any attempt to correlate that usage data with a personal identity. We use this service to find out how our visitors are interacting with our website, what changes we can make to improve the browsing experience, and to evaluate the results of our marketing efforts.

Our partners

In the exercise of providing certain services to you, we may have a need to share some of your personal data with one of our trusted partners. ABPANC will only transmit your personal data to partners who share our commitment to data protection and privacy. Aside from our trusted service providers, ABPANC will not disclose or sell your personal data to any third party, unless required by law.

During the application process, you will be given the option to opt-in to share your name, credentials, and email address with ASPAN and/ or any other related organizations. You may also opt-in to allowing ABPANC to publish your name and credential on the ABPANC website as a way to recognize your credential.

Links to other web sites

Our web site contains links to other web sites. On web sites that ABPANC does not control, we cannot be responsible for the privacy of any information collected, directly or indirectly. Those sites are not governed by this Privacy Policy. For questions about your privacy in relation to other sites you will need to review the privacy statement that they provide.

Data We Collect and How We Use It

ABPANC does not share, sell, or rent information to any third party processors for their promotional use or for marketing purposes except in the following circumstances:

  1. ABPANC collects information from candidates and certificants including but not limited to (name, email, phone, RN license, demographic information) in order to:
    • Process exam and recertification applications
    • Communicate with candidates and certificants
    • Fulfill requests for information and product requests.
  2. Application information for certification or recertification entered into Learning Builder such as RN license number and employer are considered confidential and is not shared with ANY outside party. It is used only by ABPANC and PSI, the testing agency for certification processing purposes.
  3. Individuals who purchase items from the ABPANC store are asked to provide a credit card number or other account numb ABPANC does not share this information with third parties unless authorized to do so or if it is necessary to fulfill our responsibilities, including, but not limited to, delivering a product or service you order.  When individuals choose to pay using their credit cards, ABPANC submits the information needed through secure payment gate sites to conduct the transactions.

When you terminate your certification or cancel the website account access, ABPANC may continue to share information about you according to our legal and regulatory requirements.

In addition, ABPANC may disclose information as required by law or as needed in legal proceedings when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or respond to a government request.

Disclosure of Candidate and Certificant Information

  1. ABPANC periodically shares certificant information, including first and last name, certification status, and email, with ASPAN, its components and other related organizations. Individuals may choose to opt out by contacting ABPANC at abpanc@cpancapa.org.
  2. The procedure for verifying and individual’s CPAN/CAPA status can be found in PP3-5.
  3. ABPANC will supply the first and last names of individuals who recently passed the CPAN/CAPA exam to the Journal of Perianesthesia Nursing (JoPAN) for publication, as space allows. Individuals may opt out of having their names submitted.

How Individuals Can Control and Update Data

  1. Individuals are encouraged to make sure their information is up to date at all times. They may update their information in the ABPANC candidate management system, Learning Builder, at any time.
  2. Individuals may opt out of ABPANC communications by sending an email to abpanc@cpancapa.org.
  3. Individuals may opt-in to sharing their name, credentials, and email address with ASPAN and/ or any other related organizations by logging into Learning Builder.
  4. Individuals may also opt-in to allowing ABPANC to publish their first and last name, state and credential status on the ABPANC website as a way to recognize your credential.

Security Measures

The website has security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse, and alteration of the information under ABPANC’s control. When you enter sensitive information (such as a credit card number) as part of the purchase process, we encrypt the transmission of that information.

When you submit information to ABPANC through our website, you should be aware that your information is transmitted across the Internet and that no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. Although we take reasonable security measures to protect your information when we receive it, you also need to ensure you take appropriate steps to protect your information.

Social Media Widgets

This website includes social media features, such as the [Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram] buttons, that run on the website. These features may collect your Internet Protocol address and which page you are visiting on our website, and may set a cookie to enable the feature to function properly. Social media features and widgets are either hosted by a third party or hosted directly on our website. Your interactions with these features are governed by the privacy policy of the company providing it.

Updates

This policy was last updated in February of 2023. We reserve the right to make any changes and updates to the Privacy Policy without giving you notice as and when we need to. The most up to date Privacy Policy will be posted on our website and you may check it whenever you like.
