Recertification Option 2 - Continual Learning Program (Contact Hours)

To recertify through the Continual Learning Program, 90 Contact Hours of acceptable continual learning activities are required. The Continual Learning Program has several dimensions:

  1. A required number of contact hours - 90
  2. Direct and Indirect Care categories
  3. Time frame for earning contact hours
  4. Whether this is your first, second or third or more time to recertify. Please refer to the Recertification Handbook for a complete description of each of these elements.

As a quick overview:
First Recertification Period - If you are recertifying for the first time, you must earn a minimum of 60 contact hours in Direct Care. The remaining 30 contact hours may be earned in either Direct or Indirect Care.
Second Recertification Period - If you are recertifying for the second time, you must earn a minimum of 45 contact hours in Direct Care. The remaining 45 contact hours may be earned in either Direct or Indirect Care.
Third or More Recertification Period - If you are recertifying for the third time or more, you must earn a total of 90 contact hours. No minimum is required in Direct Care.

*All 90 contact hours may be earned in Direct Care if you choose.
