Each August, a call for nominations for upcoming board positions, including President–elect, is sent to ABPANC Board of Directors, ASPAN Board of Directors and Component Presidents and is published on the ABPANC Web site.
Nominations for all positions must be postmarked no later than November 30th.
All nominees are notified of the nomination and sent the Nomination Application Booklet of information. The nominee must submit the information required and described in the booklet, postmarked no later than January 15th.
ABPANC is accepting nominations for RN Director positions for the 2011-2013 terms of office. The term of office on the Board of Directors is two years.
Why consider volunteering with ABPANC as a member of the Board of Directors?
As an ABPANC Volunteer, you have the unique opportunity at the national level to contribute to the development of the CPAN® and CAPA® programs that recognize and promote excellence in perianesthesia nursing practice and, most importantly, are in the best interest of perianesthesia patients and their families.
Further, you have an opportunity to:
- as nurses, give back to a profession that you’ve built a career on;
- ensure the quality of care delivered and make a positive difference in patient outcomes;
influence national standards and practice;
- advocate for perianesthesia patients and their loved ones at a global level beyond your immediate environment;
- grow professionally in areas you’re not exposed to every day;
- network nationally with colleagues beyond the walls of your own workplace;
- be recognized as a national leader within your profession; and
- collaborate with other national professional organizations and their leaders.
Nominees must express a commitment to the perianesthesia nursing specialty and to professional certification. You must view specialty nursing certification as a means for public protection and be committed to professional certification as a means of validating the knowledge, skills and abilities required to practice perianesthesia nursing in order to promote quality patient care. The ability to understand issues related to certification from a global perspective is key. Additionally, you must be CPAN® and/or CAPA® certified.
In addition, all nominees must:
- Possess excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
- Be team players
- Be confident public speakers
- Excel at coaching and mentoring others
- Have recognized leadership skills
- Be computer literate and have access to a computer
A Nomination Booklet, which contains complete information about ABPANC, the process for nominations and elections, position accountabilities, explanation about the interview process using a competency model, Conflict of Interest policies, commitments, and required written materials is found on the ABPANC website at www.cpancapa.org on the Latest News section of the home page, and may be downloaded.
Further Qualifications
ABPANC seeks individuals who are passionate about the perianesthesia specialty and certification. While this passion is expressed in many ways, often including membership in one’s professional organization, it is not a requirement for ABPANC service. Since ABPANC is a certifying organization, it is precluded by law from requiring membership in any professional association, including ASPAN, as a requisite for service on the ABPANC Board of Directors.
ABPANC needs your help in identifying qualified perianesthesia nurses to serve in this very important leadership role. If you know of qualified individuals or you share our commitment, have a willingness to serve, and are ready for a true professional challenge, please email a letter of nomination or self-nomination to pgodlewski@proexam.org.
All nominations must include the individual’s name, home address, business and home phone numbers, and email address. Upon receipt of a nomination, ABPANC will send the nominee the information materials they will need to submit an application. Self-nominations are encouraged.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact Philip Godlewski, ABPANC Program Associate, at 1-800-6ABPANC and press option 2, or email pgodlewski@proexam.org.
NOMINATIONS MUST BE POSTMARKED NO LATER THAN
NOVEMBER 30, 2010.
