Examination Fees

ASPAN Member* $285
Non-ASPAN Member $385

* In order to receive the ASPAN member discount, you must already be an ASPAN member at the time that you apply online and provide an active ASPAN membership number.

If you apply to take both the CPAN® and CAPA® examinations on the same test date or on different dates in the same testing window you must complete a separate application for each examination and pay the fee for each examination.

For information about withdrawing from an examination, requesting a refund, or requesting a rollover from one administration window to another, please refer to the Certification Candidate Handbook for ABPANC’s policies. In addition, policies regarding if you are a “no-show” candidate for your scheduled examination appointment are defined in the Certification Candidate Handbook.

Group Discount Program /Purchase Vouchers

ABPANC no longer offers the Group Discount Program and the Voucher Program effective with those registering in the Fall 2011 Registration Window. ABPANC will, however, honor those vouchers previously purchased but not yet used.

Discount for Unsuccessful Candidates

ABPANC is pleased to offer unsuccessful candidates a discount of $50 off the examination fee if they retake the examination within the next 12 months (within the next two administration windows).

Unsuccessful candidates will still be required to submit a complete application to retake the examination. Instructions on how to apply the discount will be provided in the score report that is mailed to the candidate.

Unsuccessful candidates who use the discount are not eligible for a withdrawal or rollover to a subsequent examination.

Composition of the Exams

Each CPAN and CAPA certification examination consists of 175 questions with 140 scored multiple-choice questions plus 35 unscored pretest questions. Candidates may take up to three hours to complete the examinations.

Candidates are tested on their ability to recall facts or understand principles, to relate two or more facts to a situation or analyze a group of facts and to synthesize information and evaluate situations, in order to choose a correct course of action.

Each examination question has been verified for accuracy, currency and reliability and referenced to a source published within the past five years. Examination questions are written by practicing perianesthesia nurses who are also CPAN or CAPA certified.
