Examination Preparation
Preparing for either the CPAN® or CAPA® examination is based on the individual candidate's learning needs. Many candidates form study groups and study from reference books and articles, and while not required, attend review courses.
Review the Study References, a partial listing of publications that may be helpful study materials for the CPAN® and CAPA® examinations, found in Appendix D of the Certification Candidate Handbook. A complete listing of patient needs and related nursing knowledge that comprise the test blueprints for the CPAN® and CAPA® examinations are found in Appendix C of the Certification Candidate Handbook (please note: Appendix C can be found within the handbook). After carefully reviewing the test blueprint and identifying your individual learning needs, examination candidates should identify additional references and study opportunities as necessary. Please note that neither Professional Examination Service (PES) nor ABPANC distributes reference books or articles. Study references may be purchased from ASPAN or the publisher as noted in Appendix D of the Candidate Certification Handbook.
ABPANC does not endorse or sponsor any review courses. ASPAN and ASPAN Components may sponsor review courses or may be aware of review courses in your area. For information contact ASPAN at 877/737-9696 or visit the ASPAN web site. Please note: Other vendors may also offer review courses and study materials. ABPANC cautions you to be sure the information that they provide is accurate. For example, are they basing their information on the test blueprints found in the most current Candidate Certification Handbook. Any vendor that promises to "have the inside track" on the CPAN® and CAPA® examination questions or to know the questions that are asked, is not being truthful.
